Conference / April 01, 2025 - April 02, 2025
Dr.-Ing. Robert Daschner with a presentation on »Climate-friendly plastics: Utilization of biomass waste as feedstock for steam crackers«
Fraunhofer UMSICHT presents new developments and approaches for climate-friendly plastics at Biopolymers and Beyond in Vienna, organized by Biobase. Dr. Robert Daschner is taking part with a presentation entitled »Climate-friendly plastics: Utilization of biomass waste as feedstock for steam crackers - New developments in conversion technologies and new approaches for further processing«. He will also discuss research into the utilization of sewage sludge.
Biopolymers and Beyond deals with innovative approaches to the defossilization of plastics in order to decouple the carbon demand from primary fossil resources. The event addresses potential regenerative raw material sources, provides an overview of possible technologies including their degree of maturity and presents innovative products and applications in the form of best-practice examples. You will also learn about the latest legal and regulatory framework conditions and their impact on plastics.
Fraunhofer UMSICHT develops process engineering solutions in the field of carbon conversion. With a newly developed approach, the path to climate-friendly plastics can be created and conventional plastics become CO2-neutral by replacing fossil raw materials with regenerative ones. We use biomass waste as a starting material for steam crackers. We present an innovative approach for the production and processing of pyrolysis oils from biogenic residues as an alternative, non-fossil carbon source for the petrochemical industry.
The technology of thermo-catalytic reforming is explained - a combined pyrolysis and reforming process that produces stable, high-quality crude oils from biogenic residues that can be co-processed in a refinery. In addition, we will present innovative processes for the post-treatment of biogenic pyrolysis oils in order to meet the specifications required for steam crackers. Various downstream processes are used to refine oils and gases from renewable raw materials.
